In an historic moment for Antigua, Ammarilla Henry along with National Sailing Academy (NSA) Senior Instructor Kayon Guiste were the first sailors to compete on behalf of Antigua & Barbuda in the Open Class at the Caribbean Dinghy Championships, which took place in Antigua from October 26th to 28th. They were sailing in the RS Venture Class.

A remarkable individual who exemplifies the power of determination and resilience, Amarilla, who has lived much of her life with an amputation below the knee, learned to sail just a couple of years ago. Her journey is a profound reminder that age and physical challenges are no barriers to mastering new skills and pursuing one's passions.

We hope Ammarilla’s experience inspires others to see sailing as an accessible and fulfilling activity. Her courage and commitment are a testament to the inclusive spirit of sailing, demonstrating that anyone, regardless of their circumstances, can take to the water and thrive.

Sailiablity is interested in hearing from other students who would be interested in learning to sail with a view to it becoming their sport of choice.

The NSA continues to deliver free sailing for our Sailiability students each weekday morning. Many of our students experience a joy ride, but for others, there is more capacity and opportunity to learn. The schools on the programme include the Adele School, Friends of the Care Project, the Victory Centre, and the National Rehabilitation Centre along with our community groups for older people. We have capacity to add more groups to the programme in the mornings on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday from 11am -12pm or individuals.

To find out more, speak with Sailability Director Bob Bailey on +1(268) 783 8553.
