National Sailing Academy Launches the 2024 Sea Learning Challenge with a Strong Female Presence

English Harbour, Antigua – The National Sailing Academy is thrilled to announce the commencement of the 2024 Sea Learning Challenge (SLC). This year, six enthusiastic students have embarked on a transformative journey of intensive two-week sailing lessons. Notably, this cohort includes five women and one man, a gender balance that underscores our commitment to promoting inclusivity in the traditionally male-dominated world of sailing.

"The inclusion of a majority of women in this year's program is particularly exciting for us," said General Manager Alison Sly-Adams. "It resonates deeply with our ongoing efforts to encourage more women to take up this exhilarating sport and pursue careers in the yachting industry."

Dr. Agnes Francis Adolphine, an Officer for the Sea Learning Challenge Foundation, expressed her enthusiasm for the program's launch. "We are very pleased to have kick-started this year’s sessions with a shift in age group this year from 16-25. It’s always inspiring to witness the students' growth and see whether any of them develop a passion strong enough to lead them into a career in yachting or marine science."

During the course, participants will engage in rigorous training that encompasses the RYA Learn to Sail syllabus from levels 1 to 3. This comprehensive curriculum ensures that students gain a robust foundation in dinghy sailing, equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to sail independently.

The National Sailing Academy remains committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where all individuals, regardless of gender, can discover the joys and challenges of sailing. We look forward to seeing the remarkable progress our students will make over the next two weeks and beyond.
